The History Behind the Original Paloma Cocktail
Little is known about the historical origin of the Paloma cocktail, the most popular tequila-based drink in Mexico. Some believe that it is named after La Paloma (“The Dove”), the popular folk song composed in the early 1860s. Difford’s Guide claims it was created by the legendary Don Javier Delgado Corona, owner and bartender of La Capilla, in Tequila, Mexico.
Sweet, sour, salty and bitter, it hits four parts of your palate at once. Our mock version of this Paloma cocktail, with its signature honey-lime salt rim, is bound to make you fall in love.
What Makes this Paloma Mocktail “Functional?”
Grapefruit is low in calories and provides a significant amount of fiber and antioxidants. It also benefits your immune system by providing several vitamins and minerals known for their role in protecting the body against infection.
Grapefruit can promote fullness and reduce calorie intake and insulin resistance, which can lower your risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Certain nutrients and antioxidants in grapefruit have been shown to help protect the heart by regulating blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Many of these antioxidants also help prevent the development of cancer.
Grapefruit contains vitamin C, often used in serums to heal the skin, brighten dark spots and smooth the skin surface. Studies show that an increased intake of vitamin C through foods like grapefruit may help combat these skin woes as well. Grapefruit also has a high water content and helps your body produce collagen, which benefits skin hydration and wrinkles.
The citric, malic and tartaric acids in grapefruit are the very same alpha-hydroxy acids used in skin care products for their ability to improve skin texture and elasticity. In tandem with the benefits of white tea, lime and honey, this pink grapefruit mocktail is bursting with the nutrients your skin needs to look its healthy best. The optional scoop of collagen peptide powder adds even more skin-boosting nourishment.
